Steering Geometry 1

1. i) Caster: 5.38°

ii) Mechanical trail: 9.41mm

iii) Kingpin inclination angle: 10.01°

iv) Scrub radius: 32.35mm

v) Kingpin lateral offset: 85.29mm

2. Given

Pneumatic trail: 25mm

Mechanical trail: 9.41mm

Lateral force: 2000N

Restoring moment: lateral force(PT+MT)

= 2000(25+9.41)

= 2000(34.41)

= 68820 N-mm

= 68.82 N-m

3. We can make scrub radius zero by reducing the kingpin lateral offset by 35.29mm and if we reduce it further than scrub radius would become negative without changing other factors like caster, KPI, etc or we can change the lower and upper ball joint hardpoints only.
