Project

Static structural analysis for the given geometry using three different weld materials using Ansys

Objective:

To perform static structural analysis for the given geometry using three different weld materials.

Weld Material used:

Case 1. Stainless Steel: In this case ,Stainless steel is used for both weldments and plates.

Case 2. Aluminium Alloy:The material to be chosen for this case is Aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought).Plate material to be used is stainless steel.

Case 3.Bronze: In order to simulate \"Brazing\",we should be using bronze as the weld material.Stainless Steel is assigned to both plates and Copper to the \"Ribs\".

Static structural analysis system is opened in the Ansys project schematic window and renamed as welding.

Geometry:

The given model is imported into the geometry.Design modeller is opened and made sure that the geometry is perfect.

\"\"

Meshing:

In Mechanical, the model is meshed with 7mm element size.

\"\"

Contacts:

In connections, contacts are defined as follows.Frictional contacts are given a friction coefficient of 0.2

\"\"

\"\"

Boundary conditions:

Here, fixed support is given for all the circular hole faces of the big plate and a force of 15000N is given in negative Y direction for rectangular hole faces of the small plate.

Results:

Case 1:

Global stress

\"\"

Directional deformation

\"\"

Strain at ribs

\"\"

Stress at welds

\"\"

Case 2:

Global stress

\"\"

Directional deformation

\"\"

Strain at ribs

\"\"

Stress at welds

\"\"

Case 3:

Global stress

\"\"

Directional deformation

\"\"

Strain at ribs

\"\"

Stress at welds

\"\"

Inference:

From the results obtained, the maximum values are found as follows

\"\"

Conclusion:

Thus from the inference it is found that, case 3 simulation(i.e.Bronze as the weld material,Stainless steel as the material for plates and Copper as the material for ribs) experiences the maximum global stress (350.47 MPa),maximum directional deformation(0.38246 mm) and maximum strain at ribs(9.34E-04).

Also it is found that, maximum stress at welds(314.64 MPa) occurs in the case 1(i.e.Stainless steel is used for both weldments and plates).
