Project

Solid to Sheet Metal Conversion Using Nx Cad

Aim - To covert a solid body into a sheet metal body part.

Introduction - Sheet metal process is one of the fundamental metalworking processes in which thin metal sheets are Produced by various industrial operations. Various other operations are performed on the sheet metal to get the desirable Functionality result Such as Stamping, coining, perforation, bending etc. Automotive Industry has a huge application of sheet metal parts as the majority of a vehicle body is made up of sheet metal part. The sheet metal comes in various thickness.

Work Flow -

Commands Used -

  • Flanges - flange command is used to add material at the edges of tab part. it has 2 component web and bend. The bend radius must be 2 times the thickness of the material also bend radius is inversely proportional to the ductility of the material.
  • Bead - the bead is extruded feature which is created using press operation. Bead provide stiffness to sheet metal part. the height of bead should on exceed the thickness of the sheet.
  • Unbend - Unbend command is used to flatten the sheet concerning one flat face or surface.
  • Rebend - Rebend is the opposite of Unbend command. It is used to bring the flatten part to its original shape.
  • Jog - Jog is used to create an offset in sheet metal. A profile is needed on a planer face about which the operation is performed. It offset the surface and connect the offset surface to the original one with a flange.
  • Hole - Hole command is used to create drilled or bored holes on the part.
  • Solid to sheet metal - This command is used to convert the solid part into a sheet metal part.

Conclusion -

  • The following project helps in understanding the workflow to follow when creating a sheet metal part from a solid part.
