Simulation of Flow over a cylinder
Flow over a cylinder with different reynolds number.
Dimensions were taken as follows
- Diameter of cylinder= 0.03m
- Length of cylinder= 0.1m
- The length of the Computational domain was taken to be 0.6m
Formula to calculate the baseline case Reynolds number.
Re = V*D/v
where
D= cylinder diameter in m
v = kinematic viscosity in kg/ms
V= inlet velocity in m/s
Air is the working fluid.
- Dynamic viscosity of air is 1.81x10^(-5) Kg/ms at temperature 300 k pressure 1 atmosphere.
First, the simulation was done for Reynold\'s number =500.
1) For Re=500.
Velocity=0.30167 m/s.
Computational time=4 seconds
For 20% increase, the Reynold\'s number is 600.
2) For Re=600.
Velocity=0.362 m/s.
Computational time=3.32 seconds
For 40% increase, the Reynold\'s number is 700.
3) For Re=700.
Velocity=0.42233 m/s.
Computational time=2.86 seconds
For 100% increase, the Reynold\'s number is 1000.
4) For Re=1000.
Velocity=0.6033 m/s.
Computational time=2 seconds

Note:**the Reynolds number for simulations are mentioned in the video title**
Observations:
1) Increase in Reynolds number showed increase in Velocity.
2) The Velocity pattern varied initially but became stable after sometime.
3) There was not much change in pressure values around the cylinder.
4) Stagnation point is observed at the front side of the cylinder, at a distance of 0.085 m from the inlet face of computational domain.
5) Velocity drop was high near the region at the back of cylinder.
6) At regions near at the top and bottom of the cylinder,there was a sudden increase in velocity.
