Shock tube simulation

Shock tube simulation

Video link - https://youtu.be/6m0UyLcwaj8

This simulation shows the interaction of two gases at different pressure when allowed to mix suddenly.

I initialized two regions, one with Nitrogen gas at 600000Pa and another with Oxygen at 1013225Pa. Both the regions are closed i.e. flow between the regions cannot occur.

I created an event to open the regions so that gases can flow between regions.

An AMR is also set with Nitrogen mass fraction subgrid scale 0.001

Plots

TIME VS CELL COUNT

\"\"

X-AXIS - TIME

Y-AXIS - CELL COUNT

From the graph, we see that the cell count in our simulation increases rapidly.

This is due to Adaptive mesh Refinement we\'d set up so that we can capture the mixing process more accurately.

TIME VS PRESSURE

\"\"

X-AXIS - TIME

Y-AXIS - PRESSURE

TIME VS TEMPERATURE

\"\"

X-AXIS - TIME

Y-AXIS - TEMPERATURE

From the graphs, we conclude that after some time the shock waves are diminished and the pressure and temperature fall to stability. The fluctuation in the Pressure, Temperature and shock waves are not that visualised from the graphs but the more visible the pictures and video.
