Sheet metal Bracket-I
Design of a sheet metal Bracket:
Objective:
The objective of this project is to create a bracket in the sheet metal module ofNX CAD software based on the inputs received. The design is to be done by following proper methodology and as per design for manufacturability.
Introduction:
The bracket is an L shaped structure with contour and holes. It has a bead to strengthen it. The requirement is to create it in NX CAD which conforms to manufacturing.
Design Methodology:
The below flow chart explains the process or tree structure of the model to create this sheet metal body.
Tools and Features used:
- Contour Flange - This is used to contoured tabs.
- Normal cutout- To remove material from sheet metal body.
- Unbend- This option is used to flatten the bent surfaces.
- Rebend- This is used to rebend a flattened part into the required bent shape.
- Bead- It is a command used to lift the material along the selected sketch to provide strength to the sheet metal body. It can be done with different cross-sections.
- Sketcher- To create 2D curves for 3D operations to be done.
- Hole- To create Holes or circular cutout on sheet metal body.
- Local Radius analysis- To measure radii formed in sheet metal body.

Conclusion:
The above process explains the methodology used in the design of Bracket using various commands in NX CAD.
This project helps to understand the various commands used to design the sheet metal body and also the manufacturing requirements to be considered to be in the design.
