Railway Track Wheel Challenge
OBJECTIVE - Multiply the bearing load by 5 times and compare the results with the load of 100000 N (As done in week 2 video). Compare the Total Deformation, Equivalent stress and the life under both the loads
STEPS -
1.IMPORT GEOMETRY
2.DEFINING THE JOINTS
3.MESHING
4.APPLYING LOADS
5. RUNNING THE SIMULATION AND RESULT ANALYSIS
IMPORTING GEOMETRY -
The geometry is imported into the Workbench from the given assembly file. The material defined is Structural Steel. The following properties are there for Structural Steel.
PROCEDURE-
- Update model to work on the model
-Under Model-Geometry assign the name for railwheel and track setups based on their application
- Under connections create a contact between railwheel and track by selecting the faces and provide their contact as Frictional with Friction coefficient 0.3
Create another contact between railwheel and shaft and provide the contact between them as frictionless
Create a translational joint on shaft as it translates in X direction along with wheel
Create a planer joint on railwheel as it moves in a straight line over the track
Create a fixed joint on track as it is fixed on which the wheel and shaft move
Mesh the model by assigning the element size as 35mm for whole geometry.
The following settings are used for analysis in the -
-Large deflction is ON
- Solver type is Direct
-Output controls made YES for stress, strain,Nodal Forces, etc
- Bearing load is set to 10^5 N in Load Case 1 and 5*10^5 N in Load Case
- Translation given is 500mm to shaft
CASE 1 - In this case the results are evaluated based on bearing load of 100000 N and 500000N respectively
For 100000N bearing load.
Maximum Stress - 179 MPa
Maximum Deforamtion- 1000 mm
Life - 38231 minimum
For 500000 N bearing Load
Maximum Stress- 712 MPa
Deformation-1000mm
Life- 574 min
CASE 2 - User Defined result for maximum Deformation is taken out for 100000N bearing load and then compared with Ansys in build deforamtion.
As visible the user defined result for sqrt(UX^2+UY^2+UZ^2) = 999.94 Total Deformation
is similar to ansys result for total deforamtion which is 1000 mm . So its verified.
