RAIL WHEEL TRACK SIMULATION
Aim: To perform analysis on a rail wheel and track and to increase the bearing load by 5times and compare it with regular results.
Equipment Required: ANSYS 19.2, Rail wheel & Track Model.
Procedure:
1. Initially download the rail wheel and track model which was given under the video.
2. Now open ansys workbench and click on static structural and rename it as RAIL WHEEL TRACK.
3. Click on geometry and import the previously downloaded geometry.
4. Now right click on model and click edit from drop down options and wait untill the MECHANICAL MODULE opens up.
5. Now right click on Connections>Contacts and select both contacts and rename them based on definition after renaming change them flip contact/target.
6. Insert 3 joints fixed, translational and planar. For translational joint we need to change the axis of translation it can be done by right clicking on Translational joint>Reference Co-ordinate system, then change the principal axis to Z-axis.
7. Now after inserting the joints we need to generate mesh of element size 35mm.
8. We need to define loads as required for the simulation. ( i.e., bearing load and joint displacement load).
9. All these loads should be given in 5 steps such that the rotation will take place in steps and the result that is evaluated will be clear.
10. For the 1st step leave the auto time step to be program controlled and solver type to be direct. Switch on the large deflection and all the output controls also needed to be switched on.
11. For 2-5 steps set auto time step to ON and step control to be define by time, carry over the time step and the minimum and maximum time steps should be 1E-0.003s and 0.1 secs respectively.
12. Now apply a bearing load of 500000N & also 100000N in negative Y direction.
13. Insert displacement in X-direction till half the track i.e., 500mm.
14. Now finally click on the right click on the solution and insert all the things that we need to evaluate like Von-Mises Stress, Equivalent Strain, Total deformation.
15. Also insert user defined results to compare the results of tiotal deformation for a load of 100000N.
16. Then right click on the solution and click on solve wait until the solution is generated.
