Pressing of the sphere over the flat plate
Pressing of the sphere over a flat plate
This challenge is performed to see the plastic deformation in the flat plate due to the pressing of the sphere over it. The sphere is assigned with structural steel material and the flat plate is assigned with the same structural steel but nonlinear., so that we can see the plastic deformation in the flat plate.
- First, we have selected the structural steel NL from material library in order to assign it to the flat plate.
- After adding the material, we import the geometry and open the ANSYS mechanical to provide the symmetry to the sphere and flat plate along X and Z axis as it can be seen below-
- Now we assign the structural steel NL to the flat plate. Whereas the material of sphere remains structural steel.
- After the materials are assigned, we provide the connections between the sphere and the flat plate as it is shown in the video. Providing frictional contact between the sphere and the flat plate face which will come in contact during pressing. Setting the friction coefficient 0.74 according to the Raphson tribology table.
- Mesh is produced by default settings and it can be seen below-
- Before setting the boundary conditions, we change the analysis settings as it was done in video like turning large deflection on and changing the number of steps to 4.
- Now we set the boundary conditions, providing the displacement to the sphere of about 4mm and than retract it back to initial position, tabular form is provided which can be seen in below image and providing fixed support to the bottom surface of the flat plate.
