Prandtl-Meyer Shock analysis

1. Usually, Shock Waves are generated when the fluid flowing through a duct has an inlet velocity equal to or greater than the velocity of sound. A sudden decrease in the flow area causes a drastic change in the gas properties in a small region of flow, which leads to the generation of shock waves.

Shock waves are formed when a pressure front travels at supersonic speeds and pushes on the surrounding air. At the region where this occurs, sound waves travelling against the flow reach a point where they cannot travel any further, pressure progressively builds in that region, and a high pressure shock wave is generated.
