Project

Performing necessary connections in an FE model of a Rear door using ANSA

Challenge #: Week 6

Objective: For the given FE model of a rear door, perform all the required connections using the options under the NASTRAN deck.

Procedure/methodology:

  1. Open the given rear door FE model in ANSA V19.1.2 using the open option under the files menu.
  2. Evaluate the different regions of the model and try to understand the necessary connections that need to be implemented.
  3. Make zone cuts wherever necessary.
  4. Go to the Nastran deck and use the RBE2 many nodes connector to make connections within the model(internal connections). Use the spot weld connection wherever connections are required but no holes are provided. This is also done using the rbe2 many node connectors.
  5. Use RBE3-cbush-RBE3 connectors in regions where weather strips/damping elements are present(between the glass and the window frame)
  6. In order to make an RBE3-cbush-RBE3 connection, first, we have to create a curve at the region of connection, then convert that curve into a spot line. Thereafter, we have to go to the connection manager and define the spot line as an RBE3-cbush-RBE3 and assign the details regarding the connection properties and select the entities or shells that are involved in the connection. Then realize the connections.
  7. Each Cbusht generated will be having its own local coordinate system. This coordinate system needs to be changed to the central coordinate system for proper alignment of all the cbushes. This is done by changing the CID cord to 0 in the property card of the cbushes.
  8. The connection for the door handle is made using a two-node RBE2 connector and a concentrated mass is assigned at the COG using the CONMi option in the Nastran deck. The mass is entered in terms of tonnes.
  9. Check if all the connections have been realized.

Result: Appropriate connections were made in the given FE model of a rear door.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Learned about various types of connections in the Nastran deck.
  2. Understood the important things to consider while doing connections.
