Meshing a interior plastic component of a side door
Objective:
Mesh the interior plastic component of the side door of a passenger vehicle with given quality criteria. After meshing assign thickness and check if the geometry is captured properly.
1. Take the mid-surface manually, mesh the geometry with quality.
2. Take auto mid-surface and mesh the geometry with quality.
3. Use the combination of both auto mid-surface and manually mid-surface and then mesh the geometry with quality.
Procedure:
1. Clean the geometric errors:
* Open the plastic component of the side door into ansa.
* Check for topological errors for the given model through geometry checkup in the utility window or turn off the shadow mode(use ctrl+shift to turnoff shadow mode temporarly) to see single cons and triple cons(which tends to errors).
* Use NOT, Universal delete, coons, fitted, HOT POINTS (by spilting the surfaces), PROJECT, INTERSECT,CUT, PROJ CUT commands to clear all the topological errors.
2. Assign the mesh and quality parameters:
* Assign the mesh and quality parameters as follows
Target Element Length-4mm
| S.N | Quality Criteria | Value |
| 1 | Aspect Ratio | 3 |
| 2 | Skewness | 45 |
| 3 | Warping | 15 |
| 4 | Taper | 0.5 |
| 5 | Min. Length | 2mm |
| 6 | Max. Length | 6mm |
| 7 | Min angle Quad | 45 |
| 8 | Max angle Quad | 135 |
| 9 | Min angle Tria | 30 |
| 10 | Max angle Tria | 110 |
| 10 | Tria % | 15 |
3. Extract the mid surface:
* Extract the mid surface of the entire component by following any of the three steps:
a) Using mid surface:
* Follo.w the path FACES-> MIDSURFACE-> CASTING and select the entire model.
* By doing so the entire model is mid skinned and meshed in the FE mode but formed FE has abrupt surfaces with less time.
* Check the mid surface formed by following the path
FACES->MIDSURFACE->CHECK MIDDLE SURFACE
* To apply appropriate PID\'s and thickness to the model use following path
FACE->MIDSURFACE-> CALCULATE THICKNESS
b) Using offset and middle:
* Using offset and middle options midsurface is extracted. The formed surfaces are accurate and extracting the surfaces is more time.
* Mesh the entire model using BEST option in MESH GENERATION.
c) Mixing above both option:
* As the mesh generated using autogen mode is in FE mode, follow the path to change the mesh FE into Geometry.MESH->ELEMENTS-> To SURFACE.
* Now abrupt surfaces are changed by using OFFSET option and using EXTEND and INTERSECT join the surfaces.
4. Correct geometric errors:
* Using RECONSTRUCT, SWAP, SPLIT, MVSURF, PASTE options correct all the geometric errors.
to
CONCLUSION:
The interior plastic component of the side door of a passenger vehicle with given quality criteria is meshed.
