MBD - Simulation on a Piston Assembly
Simulation on a Piston Assembly
Objective
To model all the parts(Piston,Wrist pin,Crank,Connecting Rod) and then assemble them in SolidWorks and to carry out motion analysis test on the motion of the setup in accordance with the various parameters given
| Sl.No |
Wrist Pin Offset ` |
Crank Speed (Rpm) |
| 1 | "0" mm | 2000 |
| 2 | 10 mm Positive | 2000 |
| 3 | 10 mm Negative | 2000 |
Procedure
The various parts for the Piston assembly are modelled in solidworks according to dimensions. i.e Piston Head , Wrist Pin , Crank , Connecting Rod and End Cap and the following models are given bellow.
Piston Head
Gudegeon Pin
Connecting Rod
End Cap
Crank
Assembly:
The various components are assembled using solidworks providing various constraints so as to move the Piston Head from a uniform BDC to TDC.
Wrist Pin Offset - The position of the wrist pin is going to be varied as followed. But the center of the axis of the piston head and the crank are coincident to each other (i.e) They are on the same plane in all the three cases.
- "0" mm Offset
- 10 mm Positive Offset
- 10 mm Negative Offset
Every stroke between the TDC and BDC are taken into accout for all 3 cases
Case 1: Neutral Position
Case 2: 10 mm Positive Offset
Case 3: 10 mm Negative Offset
Conclusion
From the resulting plots it seems that the neutral position the frequency is higher and therfore is prefered in an inline engine condition.
