Kinematic and Dynamics Simulations
To start with there are 6 types of simulations available namely
- Kinematic
- Dynamic
- Static
- Quasi
- Linear
- Complex(Combinations)
Motionsolve gives the flexibility of analysing these simulations. Out of them Kinematic simulation(KS) and Dynamic simulation(DS) deals with the degrees of freedom(DOF) of the objects. DOF tells us about the free motion(360 degrees) of the object consisting of 3 translation and 3 rotational motions. It\'s possible that with the same boundary conditions defined changing the shape of the body can change the DOF. The main difference between kinematic and dynamic simulations are :-
- KS is a model with 0 Degrees of freedom whereas DS has more than one DOF in the simulation.
- KS is the study of the position, velocity, accelerations purely as a function of time or geometry whereas DS deals with the force and inertial study.
To illustrate more on the same lets assume a body which is connected by a ball joint. Ball joint is joint which provides 3 DOF. This is the kind of system found in the human hip joint. So purely it\'s a dynamic simulation if we mimic the human hip joint. But the same can be converted to a kinematic simulation when we restrict the motion of its axis. So still it moves in the same way but is restricted by constraints.
Similarly when a pendulum is attached to a revolute joint it can move in 1 DOF freely but when its restricted its motion it becomes kinematic from dynamic type of simulation.
to check the working in motion solve open the following link by looking at the revolute and ball joint simulation.
