Flow in pipe With varying reynolds number
low in pipe (With varying reynolds number)
problem statement
Run a pipe flow simulation with an inlet Reynolds number of 100,1000 and 10,000.
For each of these cases do the following
1. Place line probes at 95%, 90% and 85% of the pipe length.
2. Compare the normalized velocity profile at each of these locations
3. Normalize the velocity profile by the inlet velocity.
Solution :
Simulation set up:
A pipe with diameter .050 m and length 1 m is used to study the flow along the pipe for varying reynold numbers. Change in reynold number leads to changed flow velocities as described below.
Case 1 : Reynold number 1 - 100 velocity 1 - .002008 m/s
pipe diameter - .050 meter
pipe length - 1 meter
Case 2 : Reynold number 2 - 1000 velocity 2 - .02008 m/s
pipe diameter - .050 meter
pipe length - 1 meter
Case 3 : Reynold number 3 - 10000 velocity 3 - .2008 m/s
pipe diameter - .050 meter
pipe length - 1 meter
Cut plots and Probes are inserted at 85 , 90 and 95 percent of the pipe length.
Velocity plot at different location and in defined cut plot . Maximum and minimum values for velocity in the cut plots are set at Global maximum and Global minimum.
Cut plots of velocity at differnt reynold number
1. Reynold number 1 - 100 velocity 1 - .002008 m/s
2. Reynold number 2 - 1000 velocity 2 - .02008 m/s
3. Reynold number 3 - 10000 velocity 3 - .2008 m/s
Velocity plots at different points in pipe.

XY plot 2
Velocity plot of flow at 90 percent of pipe length. ( All three reynold numbers n this study.)
XY plot 3
Velocity plot of flow at 85 percent of pipe length. ( All three reynold numbers n this study.)
XY plot 4
