Flow bench analysis
Objective:
The aim of this project is to study the variation of velocity and pressure of an internal combustion engine for different valve lift value.
1. Grid dependence test.
2. Valve lift parametric study.
Geometry:
Inputs:
Bore diameter = 0.1m
Bore length = 0.1m
Procedure :
1. Geometry created with arbitrary dimensions and as shown in the figure.
2. Lids generated at inlet and exit, boundary conditions assigned as
Total pressure at inlet = 101325 Pa for air as working fluid
Static pressure at exit = 40662.5 Pa for air as working fluid
3. Grid dependence test carried out for mesh refinement 3,4,5 for valve lift of 0.002m.
4. Parametric study conducted for various valve lift from 0.001m to 0.008m for global&local mesh refinement 5.
Results:
Grid Dependence Test.
Mesh refinement 3:
Mesh refinement 4:
Mesh refinement 5:
from the above three, the mesh refinement 5 gives the better result.

Valve lift vs Mass flow rate:
Conclusion:
The parameters velocity, pressure and mass flow rate are very important for the flow bench analysis,in this case found that the velocity and mass flow rate of incoming increases with increase of valve lift, the pressure drops.
