FLOW SIMULATION IN A PIPE
AIM
Run a pipe flow simulation with an inlet Reynolds number of 100,1000 and 10,000.
For each of these cases do the following
1. Place line probes at 95%, 90% and 85% of the pipe length.
2. Compare the normalized velocity profile at each of these locations
3. Normalize the velocity profile by the inlet velocity.
PROCEDURE
STEP 1. A Pipe is created with the following dimensions:
- Diameter - 25mm
- Length - 200mm
- Thickness - 5mm
STEP 2. Lids are created in both the ends of the pipe. Then, line probes are created on 85% , 90% and 95% from one end of the pipe
STEP 3. For the given reynolds numbers , velocity of flow is calculated.
velocity is calculated by equation, RE=(velocity*diameter)/kinematic viscosity
kinematic viscosity is taken as 1.48x10^-5 at standard conditions.
For the Reynold number 100 , velocity is calculated as 0.037m/s
STEP 4. The project is saved, and fluid condition(water) is given.
STEP 5. The boundary conditions such as Inlet velocity at one end and Static pressure at other end is given
STEP 6. Cut plots at 3 line probes are created and also XY plot is created
STEP 7. Finally run this simulation
STEP 8. On the new parametric study , the velocities for the next 2 reynolds numbers such as 1000 and 10000 were given .
Finally , the results are produced as follows
RESULT
Thus the flow simulation of a pipe for three three reynolds number at 3 different points are placed and plotted.
