EXPLICIT ANALYSIS ON TENSION AND TORSION TEST IN ANSYS
Objective :
To perform the tension test and torsion on the specimen provided,to find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen.
Geometry :
The given geometry was imported in explicit dynamics.
Material :
From the engineering data, the explicit material is taken which is
- steel 1006
Mesh for tension test :
For creating mesh on required part, first coordinate sysstem created and sphere influence type of mesh with 3mm created for end portions.
Mesh for torsion test :
For creating mesh on required part, first coordinate sysstem created and sphere influence type of mesh with 1mm created for centre body and 1.5 mm for curve place.Remaining body mesh size of 3mm.
Analysis settings :
For both torsion and tesnsion test 1e-3 is used for end time.
Fixed support :
For both torsion and tension test, the one side of the body is fixed.
Displacement for Tension test :
Displacement for tension test is 18mm in x axis created
Displacement for Torsion test :
For creating displacement for torsion test, first cylindrical coordinate system is created and rotation about Y axis 1200 degrees.
Results for Tension test :
Equivalent stress :
Total deformation :
User defined output fot Temperature :
Results for Torsion test :
Equivalent stress :
Total deformation :
User defined output fot Temperature :
Conclusion :
on observing tension and torsion test,
- Equivalent stress in torsion test is high
- Total deformation in torsion test is more compared to tension test.
- Temparature generated in torsion test is almost double compared to tension test.
