Drag Force Calculation in Case of Cyclist

About Drag Force

Drag is the force of wind or air resistance pushing in the opposite direction to the motion of

object, in this case the cyclist.

Here we have drag coefficients for dofferent profiles.

PART I

% Drag Cofficient(unitless)
c_d=0.95;
% Frontal Area(m^2)
A=0.4;
% Density of Air(kg/m^3)
rho=1.63;
% Velocity(m/s)
v=[1:30];
% Formula to calculate drag force
Drag_Force=rho*A*c_d*v.^2*0.5;
% Plotting of graph
plot(v,Drag_Force,\'linewidth\',3,\'color\',\'r\')

ylabel(\'Drag force\')

PART II

Fron above table we can see that drag coefficient is varying from 0.04 to 1.5

Therefore we consider c_d as arrayfrom0.04 to 1.5[0.04:1.5]

% program to calculate drag force against cyclist
clear all
close all
clc
% inputs required
% Drag Cofficient(unitless)
c_d=[0.04:1.5];
% Frontal Area(m^2)
A=0.4;
% Density of Air(kg/m^3)
rho=1.63;
% Velocity(m/s)
v=1.5;
% Formula to calculate drag force
Drag_Force=rho*A*c_d.*v^2*0.5;
% Plotting of graph
plot(c_d,Drag_Force,\'linewidth\',3,\'color\',\'b\')
xlabel(\'Drag Coefficient\')
ylabel(\'Drag force\')
grid on
