Drag Force
Drag Force
Resistance to the flow of wind
The drag force can be calculated by using the formula
Fd=0.5*rho*A*V^2*Cd

% inputs
%drag coefficient
c_d=0.8
%area m^2
a=0.1
%velocity m/s
v=[1:50];
%density kg/m^3
rho=1.2
drag_force=rho*a*v.^2*c_d*0.5;
plot(v,drag_force)
xlabel(velocity)
ylabel(drag_force)
grid on
Fd=drag force(kgm/s^2)
rho=density(kg/m^3)
V=velocity(m/s)
Cd=non dimensional constant
A= frontal area
here in the above formula the value of the frontal area will be the area of the front part of an object which resists the flow of wind.
for example; when a rider rides a bicycle the front area of the rider and the bicycle will be the frontal area.
hence from the above formula the drag force of any object which opposes the flow of wind can be calculated.
this can be easily performed using octare and matlab softwares with greater accuracy, by substituiting the values of rho,V,A,and Cd.
