Conjugate Heat Transfer simulation-PipeFlow
Flow simulation was setup up using Converge Studio, and post processing was carried out in Paraview.
Inlet Reynold number-10000
Inflow velocity- 5m/s
Turbulence model- K-epslon model
Super-cycling modelling was carried out for overcoming time-scale disparity. In super-cycling, the fluid solver is frozen periodically while the heat transfer in the solid is allowed to progress to steady-state. CONVERGE solves the fluid and solid phases in the same simulation without requiring you to stop and restart the simulation. Super-cycling significantly reduces the computational cost of the CHT simulation.
1. Base grid: 0.004 m. (Velocity and Temperature Plots)
Temperature vs time- at the selected point near outflow of pipe:
Vector Plot:
2. Base grid: 0.006m.
Temperature vs Time at selected outflow point:
It looks like, varying the grid size, did effect the converged value of temperature to an extent (about 2-3%).
3.Base Grid: 0.002m.
Temp vs time for outflow selected point:
Now when the grid size is decreased, the effect on the converged results is bit substantial (about 12% variation).
4. Effect of Supercyclic stage interval on simulation time:
interval--0.03:
Time:1077 secs approx.
interval-0.02:
Time: 1485 seconds approx
interval-0.01
Time: 2178 secs. approx
With decrease in cycling interval, simulation time increased which was expected, because fluid scale solver is frozen more periodically, as periodic interval is less.
