Compare and Study the Emission Characteristic of Omega and W piston

Objective:

In this project compare the Nox effect of the omega and the open W Piston of the diesel engine by using the Converge Studio.

Procedure:

Here we are using the engine sector surface, with the bowl profile, we use that profile to make a piston by uding the Engine Sector surface.

The above show that, input of the bore, stroke, compression ratio given, based on the input we export the profile make a one sector of the piston which helps to maintain the computational mesh and time finer and more accurate respectively. We are using this in diesel engine and compare the effect.

Omega:

The above three figure shows the formation of the omega piston created by Engine sector surface with the help of the bowl profile

Open W:

Similarly,The above three figure shows the formation of the open W piston created by Engine sector surface with the help of the bowl profile

This type of simulation i.e here only the cylinder is enough we call it as a closed loop combustion simulation.

The above figure shows the engine parameter for the both piston omega and the open w.

The engine parameter such as cylinder bore, stroke and connecting rod etc..

Import the thermodynamic data to calculate the cfd equation and the chemistry equation and the solver.

Since we are used this piston in Diesel engine, so for the combustion we have to use the diesel as a fuel, for that we have to initiate the diesel fuel.

Import the properties of the diesel engine, to solve the chemistry.

The above two figure shows that, we have to specify the fuel has a parcel and latter plot shows the start and the end time.

The boundary flagging shown in the above figure and the below figure shows the region to done a simulation of the diesel engine.

The above four figure shows the spray modelling inputs, to activate the combustion simulation we have to specify the spray , at the high pressure due to the spray modelling and nozzle injection place, combustion starts.

Combustion modelling of the above three figure shows setup for the diesel engine.

The above three figure shows the mesh refinemet and the AMR , Fixed embedding helps to make the mesh more finer.

The above two figure shows the process to set the simulation and the timing parameter, tells which and where the simulation and the injection starts.1

Line Plotting:

Once we set the simulation, use cygwyn to get the post.

By using the line plot, we can compare the both the piston and its effect.

The above two figure shows the pressure and temperature with respect to the crank angle respectively. In temperature plot, it shows the omega piston have higher temperature than the w piston, it means the NOX is less in W compare to omega but also there is a chance that the fuel parcel is deposited that is unburned fuel in the w piston.

Similarly, compare the temperatur plot and this plot, it clearly shows the heat release rate is less in W piston compared to omega piston. For that to find the effectiven nox graph is used.

The above two figure shows the emission, the nOX effect is high in omega piston compare to the w piston, the reason is it release the more heat content and the formation of emission nox is high and also in CO2 effect at last both came in ideal state.

The above plot is shown the gaseous fuel of Diesel, it shows clearly that the omega piston burned all the fuel and in the W piston there is a unburned fuel deposited.

Hiroy Soot:

The above figure shows the hiroy soot is less in omega piston and higher in w piston.

Mesh and Animation of Omega and W piston:

Conclusion:

From the plot diagram, it is clearly shown that omega piston produce more heat release compare to W piston, this gives more NOx in omega and less in open W piston, in other case due to low temperature and also it shows open w have more unburned fuel, from the hiroy soot it clearly shown the imoure carbon content. Both have advantage and disadvantage but in this case we can go for Omega piston which give good efficiency compare to the open W piston.
