Challenge on Gearbox Sloshing effect
In this project, we have done the gear simulation for the 4 cases with varying geometries and varying the fluids. The geometries used are one with minimum clearance volume and another one is with the maximum clearance volume. The fluids used are one is water and another one is oil and these simulations are done in 2-D.
specifications of oil:
Density: 871kg/m^3
viscosity:0.04006889kg/(m-s)
Procedure:
1) Space claim:
The given model is the 3-D model since we are doing this simulation in 2-D the following steps are taken for converting 3-D into 2-D.
The 3-D model provided for simulation
The fluid volume is extracted from the given model
This 3-D model is split into two bodies in the midsection of x-y plane direction.
The above-shown surface of the model is copied and pasted in the new page layout.
This 2-D model is used for doing the gear simulation.
2) meshing:
In the meshing, the triangular method is used because this method is ideal for solving this type of problem. The mesh size used is 30mm and the capture proximity is turned on and the number of elements set to one element will make sure that one element is present in between the gear teeth at its minimum distance. naming is provided for both left and right gears.
Nodes:9461
Elements:16090
3) Setup:
- A transient operating condition is used with enabling gravity.
- k-epsilon model with enhanced wall treatment is used.
- The volume of fluid method is used in the multiphase model with the implicit method.
- The fluid domain region is specified in the model by using the mark/adaptive cell region by specifying the diagonal coordinates.
- The user-defined function is compiled and built in the library which carries the information about the rotating speeds and velocities of the model.
- The dynamic mesh is used on enabling smoothing, Layering, Remeshing which is used to maintain mesh quality it is very important because of the movement of mesh.
- Hybrid initialization is done and the patch is done by specifying the fluid in the created fluid domain region.
- The time step size used is 0.0001 and the number of time steps is set in such a way that a minimum of two revolutions of the gear should take place.
Total the gear simulation is done for the four cases.
