Centrifugal pump design and analysis

  • At first I prepared a model of centrifugal pump with random dimensions.
  • There are 6 vanes in the pump.
  • For the Flow simulation, moving reference method is used & the volume around the vanes is given angular velocity of 1000 rad/s in clockwise direction
  • Boundary Conditions are as follows:-
Inlet Boundary Condition Atmoshpheric Pressure 101325 Pa
Outlet Boundary Condition Outlet Velocity 10 m/s
  • Number Of Iterations are=700
  • Results Of Paramteric Study
Design Point 1 Design Point 2 Design Point 3 Design Point 4 Design Point 5

***negative sign shows that mass is leaving the boundry.

Performance Curve

  • A pump performance curve indicates how a pump will perform in regards to pressure head and flow

\"Performance

  • Conclusion

Generally the performance curve is parabolic in nature, but due to random dimensions and improper vane design the performance curve shows peak & valleys.

With the increase in inlet velocity the mass flow rate increases.
