Centrifugal pump design and analysis
Centrifugal Pump Design and Analysis
Intro:
in this project we will design a centrifugal pump and conduct a parametric study to understand the flow tragectories and pressure at the different outlet velocities.the main goal of this project was to analysis the max pressure created at the oulet.
centrifugal pump: its the device to suck the water at inelt by creating the low pressure with the help of the impeller and deliver the the mass with the high pressure at the outlet.
DESIGNING OF GEOMETRY:
DIMENSIONS:
casing dia :0.045
impeller dia:0.02
make a inlet wit dia:0.015
oulet with dia :0.05
STEPS TO DESIGN
- Create a 3D Model in Solidworks CAD Software.
- Modify the Components in the Components Control.
- The Computational Domain is created.
- The Rotating Region is selected and the speed is set to 1000 rpm.
- The Inlet Boundary Condition is set as Environmental Pressure of 1 bar.
- The Outlet Boundary Condition is the Exit Velocity of 15 m/s.
- The Surface Goal is set in the Inlet and the Outlet faces.
- Then the Mesh is created for the model and the Automatic mesh level is set into 3 and Advanced Chanel refinement is selected.
- Run the Simulation and the cut plots are created for the Pressure and Velocity and get the values for the goals.
SIMULATION SETUP
Eveery time we can't relay on the automatic convergence system by the software because it literally solves the L.H.S=R.H.S if the any one of the condition is satified then it terminates the calculation.
so,by keeping in this mind we are taking the 500 iterations as condition need to be satisfied by the solver.
in this plot we can see that the results are getting deviated at the start but the after the 250 iterations the results are getting convergence and stable.so, to get the right output we need to perform the iterations and need to increase the grid size.
in this parametric study im going to perform the simulation at outlet velocties starting from the 10m/s to 30m/s by taking the 5 as range.so the intevals are 10,15,20,25,30
the max pressure at those pre-defined oulet velocities at the outlet
THE FLOW TRAGECTORIES AND PRESSURE PLOTS ARE
10m/s
cutplot
pressure traectory plot
from the above plots we can observe that the low pressure region is created by the impeller and later the high pressure region is created at the oulet of the pipe and velocity will be less.
15m/s
cutplot
flow trajectory
from the above plots we can observe that the low pressure region is created by the impeller and later the medium pressure region is created at the oulet of the pipe and velocity will be high.
20 m/s
cut plot
flow trajectory
25 m/s
cutplot
flow trajectory
30 m/s
cut plot
flow trajectory
CONCLUSION
by observing the above results we can able to say that the velocity and the pressure are inversly proportional to one another. so ,the geometry is makeup the results are not accurate. by making a real geometry we can get the accurate results and better understanding.
