Project

Car Crash simulation

Objective-

In this project we will be crashing a car exterior chassis sheet when colliding with a wall of brick. We will be performing this simulation in ANSYS Workbench acadmic version. There are three cases on which we will be working here; changing the thickness of the car body. The mesh parameters and other behaviours will be kept under acadmic limit.

The body of the car is cut into two halves, then symmetry is added into the simulation to perform analysis.

Observations-

Thickness=0.3

stress

Deformation

Thickness=0.4

stress

deformation

Thickness=0.5

stress

deformation

Results & Conclusion

thickness/parameters stress(Mpa) deformation(mm)
0.3 15348 720.69
0.4 15348 720.83
0.5 15348 720.81

from the above observations we see that increasing the thickness for such small amounts does not affect the stress induced in the car surface.We need to make some substainial changes to the thickness of the surface.
