CREATING 1D ELEMENTS ON PARALLEL BRACKETS

Objective: To Creat 1D elements on the parallel bracket with given cross-section and DOFs.

Procedure:

1. First Imported the model IGES file using the Import Geometry option under the Import.

2. Then extracted mid surfaces from the parallel bracket components using the Midsurface command under the Geometry menu bar. Also seperately renamed the created mid surfaces to identify them(Bracket 1 & 2).

3. Then deleted the Solid part of the component using the Delete option also deleted the Id\'s associated with the component to ensure removal from the graphic area.

Result- Left with the created mid surfaces only in the graphic area.

4. Then used the organize tool from the Tool menu bar to move the extracted mid surface to the created component(Bracket 2).

6. Created Material as steel for the two components.

7. Then created properties for the two components and then assigned material and thickness to the created properties.

8. Now assigned the created properties to the components respectively.

9. Now using the quick edit option in Geometry menu bar assigned washer split to the holes on the components with offset value 5mm.

10. Now using the automesh option in 2D menu bar by selecting the surfaces meshed the surfaces. Here the element size is kept as 5mm.

11. To create element at required positions:

  • First created independent nodes at the required position.
  • After this created various 1D elements at described positions (rbe2, rbe3 link element) using the rigids(rbe2), rbe3 option under the Tools menu bar.

  • Now created beams using the Hyperbeam option in 1D menu bar, choosing the standard section option under the Hyperbeam. Then upon clicking on create it takes us to the hyperbeam work window.
  • In Hyperbeam window created required elements(BAR, BEAM, ROD) along with the required-cross section.
  • Rod element:-

    Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

    dimension b=10 mm

    Thickness t= 0.75 mm

  • Beam element:-

    Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

    Dimension b= 10 mm

    Dimension c= 8.5 mm

    Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

    Thickness t2= .6 mm

    Thickness t3= .6 mm

  • Bar element:- with only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

    Cross-section: CROSS section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

    Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

    Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

    Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

  • After this returned back to the model window, here created BAR, ROD and BEAM elements at required positions.
  • Then created properties for the BAR, ROD and BEAM elements.
  • Now edited the created properties by assigning Card Image as PROD, PBEAM, PBAR & also assigned sections which we created in Hyperbeam window(BAR, BEAM, ROD).
  • Then updated property for the created BAR, ROD & BEAM elements using the update option in bars & rods option in 1D menu bar.
  • To make the 1D created elements visible we enabled 1D detailed element representation option.

12. Now assigned mass at defined positions of magnitude 10 with RBE2 link by using the masses option under the 1D menu bar.

By choosing the nodes to apply mass on to and pressing create.

13. The last task left is to join the edges of two brackets using the Spring element, for that used the springs option in the 1D menu bar. By selecting the co-linear nodes at opposite brackets and pressing create to create the spring elements.

Conclusion: In this challenge we completed the task of creating the various 1D elements (BAR, ROD, BEAM, SPRINGS) as per the provided data for cross sectional areas.

From which we learned about various new tools in the Hypermesh and their usage.

We learned to create and edit following elements rigids, rbe3, springs, bar, rod. Also learned to create various elements with different cross sections and their dimensions(I-section, Box, Cross section) under the Hyperbeam option, along with working in the Hyperbeam window.
