Buckling Analysis on a cyclonic separator stand

Buckling Analysis on a cyclonic separator stand

Buckling Analysis:

When the lengthy beam is subjected to compressive axial stress, it tends to deflect sideways.

(When the structure is subjected to compressive stress, buckling may occur)

For the Cyclonic separator stand :

The cyclonic separator stand is modeled in Solidworks

a select a new study in Solidworks Simulation.

In that, select buckling type for further analysis.

Select Alloy steel material for the stand.

Select fixed geometry in the fixtures option and fix the downside of the part.

And then apply load for the part(I choose 100000 N).

Create mesh in the mesh option.

Run the simulation.

From this analysis, the obtained result of the buckling factor of safety is 14.041

Case - II

Analysis of Cyclonic separator stand with metallic stiffener

Modeled metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand.

and then apply new study in Solidworks simulation

Select Buckling Analysis.

Apply Alloy steel material for the part.

Select fixed geometry in the fixtures option and fix the downside of the part as we selected before.

And then apply load for the part(I choose 160000 N).

Create mesh in the mesh option.

Run the simulation.

From this analysis, the obtained result of the buckling factor of safety is 25.906

And next, I selected a new design study for getting the optimum result.

then we have to vary the stiffener distance on legs of the stand. So, in the variables option, I added a new variable offset distance and given ranging with step minimum and maximum distance

Next, I added a new constraint, in the simulation data and selected Buckling factor of safety

and given greater than value 25.

and then I need to get the maximum buckling factor of safety, then I have chosen to maximize option in the Goals.

For those variables, I got 6 scenarios

From the 6 scenarios, the optimal result is obtained in the 4th scenario with the

offset distance - 1000mm

Buckling factor of Safety> 25 - 25.909

A buckling factor of safety (Maximize) - 25.909

Final result :

1) Hence the buckling factor of safety for the cyclonic separator stand without stiffener is 14.041.

2) The buckling factor of safety for the cyclonic separator stand with stiffener is 25 and the Stiffner distance is 1000mm, after design study, the optimal result is 25.909 and the stiffener distance is the same as before.
