Advanced Structural Analysis using ANSYS Workbench-Bevel Gear Challenge
Introduction
The objecctive of this challenge is to analyze the given Bevel Gears and find out their total deformation, equivalent stress andequivalent strain at a mesh size of 1.75mm. Following this a parametric study is done to do a grid dependency test. Mesh sizes of 4,5 and 6 mm are used to run tests to determine how total deformation, equivalent stress and equivalent strain changes with the size of the grid or the mesh.
Grid Dependency Test
Grid dependencytest is a kind of test where the mesh size is successively refined to see the kind of effect smaller and more refined mesh has on the solution. If with each successively refined mesh the analysis starts to converge on a solution, our method can be termed correct. However with successively finer mesh the solution varies wildly, there is some senior problem with the solution. Grid indepence can be said to be achieved when there is no change in the solution or convergence point even with finer meshes.

Parametric Study
The above table illustrates the differences in results and solution can be seen as the mes gets more and more refines. Although there is no indication that grid independence has been achieved,we can see tthat all the values exhibit change when the mesh size is changed. And most of the values exhibit a constant proportional or inversely proportional relation to the mesh size change which indicate that the solution is heading towards a convergence point. This could only be confirmed after further refinenment of the grid.
