Answers to Assignment 2
Question #1:
Run the case at 1800 rpm and list down important parameters (20 Marks)
- air flow rate
- BMEP
- BSFC
- In-cylinder pressure
Answer #1
The 1cylSI-final.gtm files was loaded in to GT-ISE, and run. Report table was created that has engine geometry, operating condtions, etc. The Engine geometry inputs are shown below:
The values of the output requestes is as Follow:
- Air flow rate: 58.6
- (Brake mean effective pressure) BMEP = IMEP - FMEP =12.85-1.72 = 11.3 bar (shown in image below)
- BSFC (Brake specific fuel consumption): 241.8 g/kW-h (shown in above image)
- In-cylinder pressure (maximum pressure): 58.9 bar
Question #:
2. Increase the power output at 3600 rpm by 10%
Answer #2:
I created a parameter [bore] and [stroke] in the 1cylSI-final.gtm file and created a new case setup where I changed the bore diameter from 86mm to 89mm and stroke from 86.07mm to 89.07 mm and ran the solution.
This raised the Brake Power from 16.7 to 18.6, a 10% increase in power.
Changed in other parameters are shown in the image below.
