Analyzing the Run file and Engine file of the model simulation using Hypermesh
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the given challenge is to create the 2D and 3D mesh for housing and arm bracket and performing the changes in the run file and the engine file.As of same changes for another model.
PROCEDURE
CREATE MESH FOR HOUSING
- Import the given model using hyperworks
- Get the component to have meshed and made it the current component to work on in which the changes made on the component t to be on the current component.
- Press F5 and then select the hub component and click MASK and then REVERSE and make it as current
- Eliminate errors by giving quality criteria and make 2D mesh as TRIA error-free by keeping the model in 2D mode
- Then goto 3D mode makes the model as of current tomke the cover model full of tetras of volume content
Hub:
The hub model was 2D meshed using \'auto mesh\' command by giving the appropriate mesh criteria. Tria elements with an element size of 5mm were used for the mesh. All 2D mesh errors were fixed by using \'quality index\' and \'element cleanup\' commands. For creating a 3D mesh, \'tetra mesh\' command was used. \'Tetramesh parameters\' was used to give the criteria for the mesh (element size of 5mm and tet collapse of 0.15).\' Check elements\' under \'tools\' was used to check for any 3D mesh errors.
Cover:
\'Volume tetra\' command under \'tetra mesh\' was used to 3D mesh the cover.\' Check elements\' was used to check for any tet collapse errors.
MAIN HOUSING MODEL VOLUME MESH (COVER) HUB
- Goto 3D -> TETRA MESH -> TETRA MESH PARAMETERS edit these parameters to meet our quality criteria and tet collapse
- Goto TETRA MESH -> select all elements that convert to 3D and click on MESH and RETURN. The 3D mesh is generated
- Then press F5 select housing component of the hub and click MASK and then REVERSE to make as current component
- Goto 3D -> TETRAMESH -> TETRAMESH PARAMETERS -> edit the 3D mesh parameters of tet collapse as 0.15 for tetra elements
- Goto TERTAMESH -> COMPONENTS select all components and click on MESH and then RETURN.
- 3D MESH is generated and then check for tet collapse by using F10
CREATING MESH FOR ARM BRACKET
- Open the arm bracket file using HyperWorks by selecting radioss block
- Click MODEL -> COMPONENTS -> make BASE as current
- Goto 2D -> Select surface on top of base by selecting elements of quad only and size as 10mm perform 2D MESH
- Goto 3D -> ELEMENT OFFSET->SOLID LAYERS -> select all 2D elements and select the four surfaces along sides and give no.of layers as 5 and thickness as 25mm
- The 3D mesh is generated along with the thickness of the BASE
- Goto MODEL -> COMPONENTS -> ARM CURVE attach to it
- Click F5 keep the cursor on ELEMS and select BY CONFIG and select HEXA8 ELEMS and mask
- Goto GEOMETRY -> NODES select circle and click on the curve of arm curve to create a center for circle
- Goto 3D->SPIN -> SPIN ELEMS and select angle as 90 and on the spin as 12 select the elements that you have to spin and select the nodes of arm curve and select base point as circle center by keeping spin axis as the x-axis and click on SPIN- and RETURN
- Now make visible arm straight and MASK all SURFACES except the end surface
- Goto 2D and mesh the surface and make sure that the elements are equal to the end of ARM CURVE elements
- Goto TOOL-> FACES and click find faces of the arm curve
- Goto 3D LINEAR SOLID ->select from and to elements and also three nodes on that surface and click on SOLIDS and RETURN
- Goto TOOL -> FACES -> remove faces
- Select BOSS and mesh on circle part using 2D and make sure that elements are equal
- Click SHIFT+F7 and project node to surface on the BOSS circle
- Goto 3D ->SOLID MAP -> select source geometry none and select elements on the circle of BOSS and choose node path along the surface of BOSS and MESH and click RETURN
- Goto TOOL -> ORGANISE and select the mesh and move to BOSS
QUESTIONS ASKED IN CHALLENGE
- Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail=5188.745mm/ms
- The length of the rail is about 1000 mm.calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other=0.192724ms
3.Time for sound to travel the length of rail=0.192724ms
PERFORM RADIOSS ON GIVEN RADIOSS FILES:
- According to the calculated data given above and download the radioss files
- Open the hypermesh and click on IMPORT SOLVER DESK -> and select radioss and open the FIRST_RUN_0000 and click on IMPORT to open the radioss file
- Goto VIEW-> HYPER WORKS -> SOLVER and click ENGINE KEYWORDS -> RUN set stop time as 0.192ms and set frequency as 0.096
- Goto ANALYSIS -> RADIOSS set the option as -nt 4 as the input for CPU (processor) and click on RADIOSS it will run the file and gave 20 animation files as output
- Goto HYPERVIEW and open the h3d file to see the animation of 20 files
- These are 20 animation files that we got after running those radioss files. Goto CONTOUR to see the displacement of shock wave
- And these 20 files are printed at each of the 10 cycles and which is already defined by the user.
CONCLUSION
As the changes between creating the 2D shell mesh then obtaining the solid map. Then creating the 3D mesh directly. And by changing the frequency and run time of the engine execues is noted down. As the shock wave propagation within a thing or material can be sensed.
