ASSIGNMENT 1
1. 4 degeree of restraint
2. We need suspension to gain negative camber in jounce because during jounce camber changes to positive so to keep the tire straight negative camber gain is required.
3. Position of roll centre-
i. At the C.G. height - no moment arm no rolling moment.
ii. At the ground level - High moment arm High Rolling moment.
4. Mcpherson strut suspension provides less camber gain as comapared to double wishbone suspension during jounce, so due to less camber gain tire will wear more.
6. Spring Rate - Spring rate is the amount of weight it takes a spring to compress a certain distance. The higher the spring rate stiffer the spring. k(spring rate) = Force/Displacement
Wheel Rate -Wheel rate or wheel center rate is vertical force acting on the tire per unit vertical displacement at the location along the spindle corresponding to the wheel centerline, measured relative to the chassis.
7.Outer wheel has more than inner wheel.
8. Ackermann Percentage = Wheelbase/Length of intersection = 2700/(2700+1300) =67.5%
9. Negative caster is undesirable because it can create steering instability and wander. Negative caster will decrease steering effort and car will have poor straight line stability.
10. Revoknuckle geometry reduces torque steer by lowering scrub radius and reducing moment arm.
5. Yes we can prevent rear spring from extension during braking by adjusting the stiffness of spring i.e make it more stiff so that force is transferred to spring during braking has no effect on it.
Positive caster is beneficial because it aids steering return and helps the wheels self-center and run straight. But is also increases steering effort slightly.
