FEA OF PLATES WITH THROUGH HOLES IN SOLIDWORKS

AIM:Perform a static analysis on two models of plate with holes.

INTRODUCTION:-

1. STRESS: It is the resistance offered by the body to deformation.It is equal to load upon area.

2. STRAIN:Deformation per unit length in the direction of deformation is called strain.It is equal to change in length upon original length.

3.TENSILE STRESS:It is the stress state caused by an applied load that tends to elongate the material in the axis of the applied load, or in other words, the stress caused by pulling the material.

4.. YIELD POINT:This point is just beyond elastic limit,at which the material undergoes appreciable increase in length without further increase in load.

PROCEDURE:-

1. DRAW SKETCHES OF 2 PLATES WITH DIMENSIONS :-

Length=300 mm
Height=120 mm
Thickness=30 mm
Diameter of circular hole at the center=60 mm

Length=300 mm
Height=120 mm
Thickness=30 mm
Diameter of circular hole at the center=60 mm

Two holes of 30 mm diameter which are placed 90 mm away from the central hole on both sides.

2. FIX THE PLATES AT ONE END BY APPLYING FIXTURES AT ONE END OF PLATES IN THE STATIC ANALYSIS AFTER SELECTING ALLOY STEEL MATERIAL AS SHOWN IN THE IMAGES BELOW.

3. APPLY LOAD OF 1000 NEWTONS AT THE OPPOSITE END SUCH THAT THE PLATE IS STRETCHED DURING ANALYSIS.

4. CREATE MESH AND RUN THE ANALYSIS.

5. OBSERVE THE RESULTS OF STRESS,STRAIN AND DISPLACEMENT OF PLATES..

PLATE 1 WITH ONE HOLE AT CENTER

PLATE 2 WITH 3 HOLES

From the above images we can see that there is a marginal difference between the stress,strain & displacement values of the plates with the two cases.

Following table has been made to compare the values:-

As the stress induced is less than yield strength (620.422 N/mm2) deformation will not occur in both cases.
