AMERICAN CHOPPER MODELLING AND ASSEMBLY
MODELLING OF AMERICAN CHOPPER
USING SOLIDWORKS
GIRAN MANOJ.B|SOLIDWORKS|30 AUG 2019
AIM
TO create american chopper realistic rendering using SOLIDWORKS software.
TO practice and gain knowledge about using the tools in solidworks to create model
INTRODUCTION
SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering. To create the 2d and 3d model by giving the proper inputs by users
*Geometric dimensions
*Plane need to draw
*Types of modeling etc..,
These are the basic inputs
PROCEDURE OF MODELLING
Idea is the creating each part using differnt tools and creating into fully defined parts.sketching the product will give the idea like
*dimensions
*final look
*importance changes to made
*position of components
STEPS OF DESIGN
*select the plane
*sketch as per dimensions
*extrude and make that to 3d sketch
*fillet or chamfer the sharp edges
*add details about the sketch
*draw the sketch as per the model and make the fully defined
*analysis
MODELLING AND ASSEMBLING
Model the sketch as per and make fully defined .Bring every part in assembly and make that mate it perfectly to each parts accordingly .It is easier to model each parts and asembling over modelling as single part
MODELING
PARTS TO BE MODELLED
1 Front fork
2 Front fender
3 Rear fender
4 Gas tank
5 Oil tank
6 Front wheel
7 Rear wheel
8 Side stand
9 Engine
10 Chassis
These parts are modelled and assembled into american chopper
MAJOR COMMANDS
REVOLVE
These commands are used make shaft like objects
Draw the centerline as the axis of revoution
Draw the sketch as per the dimension and model
Revolve the sketch and make the model
For example fork
SOLID EXTRUDE
Draw the model as per the sketch
Proper dimension to be given accordingly to make fully defined
Then click on Extrude command to make that solid
CUT EXTRUDE
It is used cut the solid parts
Make the sketch as per the structure to be cut
Click the cut extrude option to cut the part
MERGE OR COMBINE
It is used to combine two different parts as single
Click two differnt parts and make combine option to merge each
SPLIT
If the two surfaces are merged together split option is used
click on the two surfaces merged and click split to seperate each other
PROJECTED CURVE
Draw two seperate curve or profile to get the desired curve
Click the projetive curve option and make select the two sketches to get desired curve
BASIC COMMANDS
*Line
*circle
*curve
*Spline
*Rectangle
*Offset
*Point etc
These are the basic commands used and shown in tool bar
3D SKETCH
These are draw without any sketch and palne by just clicking 3d icon
CONVERT ENTITIES
To convert any entities of model as sketch it is used
Just select the model and click the convert entities option
COMPONENTS MODELLED
CHASSIS:
The frame is typically made from welded aluminum or steel (or alloy) struts, with the rear suspension being an integral component in the design. carbon-fiber, titanium and magnesium are used in a few very expensive custom frames.
The frame includes the head tube that holds the front fork and allows it to pivot. Some motorcycles include the engine as a load-bearing stressed member; this has been used all through motorcycle history but is now becoming more common

ENGINE
Four-stroke: they are lighter, mechanically much simpler, and produce more power when operating at their best. But four-stroke engines are cleaner, more reliable, and deliver power over a much broader range of engine speeds. In developed countries, two-stroke road-bikes are rare, because—in addition to the reasons above—modifying them to meet contemporary emissions standards is prohibitively expensive. SO to overcome these adavnatges we used four stroke engine

FRONT FENDER
Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

FRONT FORK
A motorcycle fork is the portion of a motorcycle that holds the front wheel and allows one to steer. For handling, the front fork is the most critical part of a motorcycle.
A fork generally consists of two fork tubes (sometimes also referred to as forks), which hold the front wheel axle, and a triple tree, which connects the fork tubes and the handlebarsto the frame with a pivot that allows for steering.

FRONT WHEEL
Floating discs have better disc centering with a fixed caliper. A floating disc also avoids disc warping and reduces heat transfer to the wheel hub. Front wheels are connected with disc brakes and mounted on front fork and acts as the driving wheel which gives direction control

OILTANK
It is used to store the engine oil for lubrication due to higher operating temperature it needs to be cooled or else engine parts get bulged and damaged.

CHAIN
A motorcycle chain is a roller chain that transfers power from the engine to the drive-wheel of a motorcycle, thus propelling it. Most motorcycle chains are made from plain carbon or alloy steel, but some are nickel-plated to prevent rust, or simply for aesthetics.

REAR WHEEL
wheels are made to cope with radial and axial forces. They also provide a way of mounting other critical components such as the brakes, final drive and suspension. Wheels, and anything directly connected to them, are considered to be unsprung mass. Traditionally motorcycles used wire-spoked wheels with inner tubes and pneumatic tyres in this we used the alloy

REAR FENDER
Its fucntion is same as the front fender it placed over the rear fender

GASTANK
A fuel tank (or petrol tank) is a safe container for flammable fluids. Though any storage tank for fuel may be so called, the term is typically applied to part of an engine system in which the fuel is stored and propelled (fuel pump) or released (pressurized gas) into an engine
