ADVISOR TOOL

OBJECTIVE:

To Use ADVISOR tool and simulate following

1.For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

2.In above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

3.Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in table and conclude.

STUDY-1:

Drivetrain selection
From the drivetrain popup menu you will be able to select the drivetrain configuration of the vehicle (Series, Parallel, etc.) which will cause the schematic of the vehicle configuration in the left portion of the figure to change accordingly. This will also modify which components are available for the type of drivetrain chosen.

Selecting components
After selecting the drivetrain configuration, all the components of the vehicle can be selected using the popup menus, or by clicking on the component in the picture. To the left of the component popup menus is a pushbutton that will allow you to add or delete components by selecting their corresponding listed m-files. The m-file of a specific component can be accessed for viewing or modifying from either the component pushbutton or by clicking on the component of the picture.

1.For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

  • In ADVISOR tool there are various simulink models of car are present that based on IC engine, Electric vehicle, and Hybrid vehicle. By using this tool many results are obtained as output called simulation of vehicle.
  • A changes of value of the motor, generator, battery capacity and some other vehicle parameters are made by the advisor tool outputs are obtained by run option. That dialogbox are shown below,

STEP-1:

  • In study 1 model are intiate as the question as load file EV_defaults_in and the drivetrain conf as EV the data's of that model are loded and many parameters are shown on that dialogbox. Default scale components are equated in that model.
  • Mass value (cargo) are changed as 500kg as per the given question then other values are not changed select continue for next step in advisor tool.

  • Next step is select the drive cycle and the number of cycles during acceleration time. FTP drive cycle is selected in this study to analysis the distance travel for vehicle.
  • In step 1 the number of cycle is assumed as 1 for observe the distance of default vehicle travel through the inbuilt battery power.

  • An default results of that model are determine in table that are given below,

Drive Cycle selection
If the drive cycle radio button is selected you can use the pull down menu to select from a list of available driving cycles. You can then select how many times you want the cycle repeated as well as if you want SOC correction. Initial conditions can also be set from here. The filtering allows you to smooth out the selected drive cycle.

Trip Builder

A cycle can be created by combining many different cycles back to back using this functionality. This new cycle is then saved in the normal cycle format and can be run as such.

CYCLE 1,

Let us consider the mass value as 500kg and number of cycle as 1 then run the program. Results are obtained as graphical representation and results figure.

An distance travel of vehicle is obtained as 17.8km and the battery is drained in the that state due to the capcity of power from battery. Graph represents the flow of battery and the number of drive cycle acceleration.

This plot shows power supply of battery to the vehicle from intial stage to final stage.

CYCLE 2,

In cycle 2 the same mass value is taken and cylce time is increased as 2 the driven acceleration of vehicle is increased so distance travel of vehicle increased as 35.5 km.

Results figure of cycle 2 are shown as below,

CYCLE 3,

Let us take same value of mass and increase the cycle time as 3 and run the tool. In this drive cycle the vehicle travel distance is increased compare to cycle 2. It increased as 41.4km and the velocity of vehicle is raised by number of driven cycle.

Results figure of cycle 3 are shown as below,

CYCLE 4,

Same mass and battery capacity is taken and cycle time is increased as 4. Run the model and results are obtained from the result figure as 41.4km. This vehicle travel distance is same as that the cycle 3, here we observed that the cycle 4 are not acted because of insufficient power from battery. After completes the cycle 3 battery will drained and vehicle will travel only that much of distance.

EMISSIONS:

There will be zero emissions are obtained in this model because of EV vehicle no combustion process is acting on engine. Battery will generate the power to engine

In battery the chemical energy is converted into electrical energy and produces the power from it.

OBSERVATION:

By the observation of three cycles this model the vehicle could'nt travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle. The maximum distance travel in default model is 41.4 km. This maximum distance travel of vehicle is obtained only by increasing the number of cycle.

Cycle 3 is the maximum number of cycle which the battery capacity is capable of acceleration. The battery is drained in number of cycle time 3

So the vehicle travel for 45km with FTP drive cycle is not possible by the default condition.

STUDY-2:

2.In above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

  • In this study the same default conditions are taken that are intiate in question 1 and battery capacity will changed for accelerating the vehicle that will increase the vehicle distance travel km.
  • ESS_PB 25 battery are used in this model we want to increase the battery power to obtain more vehicle travel distance.
  • Here the max power is increased as 27 instead of default value 25 then select the continue option.

  • Number of drive cycle is assigned as 3 by executing with same as working in the study 1.
  • Now run the model, here cycle time is increased with 3 times for so that velocity of vehicle also increased during driven cycle. graphs shows the variation of velocity and battery capacity.
  • It runs in certain distance while the power is provided from battery. while the power of battery is drained an vehicle remians stopped.

Results figure shows that vehicle travel distance as 44.8km that is near to 45km hence by increasing the battery power the accleration of cycle also increases that leads to more distance travel for vehicle.

3.Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in table and conclude.

STUDY-3:

Gradeability Test
If the gradeability checkbox is selected, a gradeability test will be run in addition to the chosen cycle. The grade displayed in the results figure will be the maximum grade maintainable at the input mph.

EXPLANATION OF STUDY:

To perform gradeability test with load file of PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in that are initiate in question, there are two type of test observed in the gradeability.

  • gradeability test by changing the speed.
  • gradeability test by changing Grade and speed.

TEST-1:

BY CHANGING THE SPEED,

Example-1

  • In this test the default speed is given and the grade option is disabled to find the gradeability percentage of vehicle dring the speed of 55mph.
  • Enable the gradeability test to obtain the percentage of gradeability driven in default speed. The test condition dialog box are shown below,

Results figure shows that acceleration test. Hence gradeability at 88.5km/h is 8.9% this will obtain by speed and the duration of test condition.

Example-2

  • Here the default conditions are applied and speed is changed as 65mph duration of time(seconds) are in default condition same as the example 1 the gradeability test option is enabled to obtain the ouput as percentage of gradeability during the given input speed.
  • Test condition dialog box are shown below to identify the input values and other default conditions.

Results figure shows that acceleration test. Hence gradeability at 104.6km/h is 7.2% this will obtain by speed and the duration of test condition. Therefore the speed of vehicle will increase an gradeability of vehicle is decrease.

OBSERVATION:

By the above examples the speed of the vehicle varies from above default speed the gradeability of vehicle is decrease. Therefore the speed of vehicle varies from below default speed gradeability of vehicle will increase.

TEST-2:

BY CHANGING THE GRADE AND SPEED,

Example-1

  • In this test both speed and grade are changed in and grade option is enabled for differntitae the actual grade value. Gradeability test is selected and run the program.
  • Speed is initiate as 25mph and grade are assigned as 15 percentage and duration of time are in default condition. Test condition dialog box are shown as below,

Results figure shows the acceleration test that gradeability at 40.2km/h is 15% this will obtain by speed and the grade value of test condition. Here the speed of vehicle is decrease the gradeability value is obtained as 15%.

Example-2

  • Speed is initiate as 70mph and grade are assigned as 10 percentage and duration of time are in default condition. Test condition dialog box are shown as below,

Results figure shows the acceleration test that gradeability at 112.7km/h is not obtain in this speed of vehicle because the certain speed have the value of gradeability. High speed are not acted in slope region for certain gradeability conditions.

OBSERVATION:

In this test the two examples shows that gradeability of vehicle is achived by some critical speed conditions. If speed of vehicle is decrease the gradeability will increase (e.g. the car sholud travel in hill with certain speed limit.)Hence the high speed is not possible in gradeability.

Example 2 shows that the gradeability is not achived at that vehicle speed.
