2D mesh for Switch Panel and Sheetmetal component

Name of Tool tests: To create a 2D mesh for Switch Panel and Sheetmetal component according to the give criteria.

Objectives: To remove all Topological errors, Creating the Mid Surface and meshing the two components with the given quality criteria.

Methodology:

  • Geometry cleanup.
  • Generating mid surface.
  • Asssigning relevent PID.
  • Meshing as per given criteria.

A) Switch panel

Geometry Cleanup.

Import the file of SwitchPanel_Updated.ansa

Under Mesh module change the perimeter length to 1mm.

Check the geometry for errors and correct the convex and concave errors using commands like Faces>topo, delete,New,cut, paste. Also delete the unecassary hotpoints.Errors like Tiple cons, cracked faces, Needle faces are to appear and can be Autofixed.

Generating mid surface.

Check the Measurements of the Model to get the Mid-Surface extraction.

Manual Mid surface is preffered because of more complicated features like ribs are present in the model.Face>offset.

Using commands like Faces>Extend, Intersect, Delete helps in linking all the midsurfaces together.

Asssigning relevent PID.

Set Pid for all the regions seperately so that the Measurement of thickness can be done properly.

Meshing as per given criteria.

Assign Mesh parameters for Target, Min and Max element length as 4mm ,2mm and 6mm respectively.

Assign the quality criteria.

Use the Best Mesh command for the entire part. Seperate the into several parts using Faces> Cut for best results.

Use reconsruct, smooth to achive proper mesh flow.

Under Hidden view correct the quality errors using Elements>Split, swap,Delete.

Note: I took 6hr.30min to complete the model.

B)Sheet Metal Component.

Geometry Cleanup.

Import file of component.igs

Under Mesh module change the perimeter length to 1mm.

Check the geometry for errors and correct it using commands like Face>topo, delete,New. Also like Hotpoints>Insert, delete. Errors like Triple cons, cracked faces, Needle faces are likely to appear. Autofix works most of the errors.

Generating mid surface.

Before going to mid surface generation check for the symmetry of the geometry.

Rm.Dbl commond under Topo module>face is used to check symmetry

Delete the one side of the component since it is a symmetry.

Manual mid surfacing using faces>offset.

using commands like faces>Extend, Intersect, Delete helps in linking all the mid surfaces together.

Asssigning relevent PID.

Assign Mesh parameters for Target, min and max length as 4mm,2mm and 6mm respectively.

Assign the quality Criteria.

  1. Use the Best mesh command for the entire part. Seperate the component into several parts using face>Cut for best results.
  2. Use reconsruct, smooth to acheive proper mesh flow.
  3. Under Hidden view corect the quality errors using Elements>split, swap, Delete.
  4. Under Quality Criteria> Presentation Parameters Tab select Draw Shell as solid Check box to view thickness.
  5. Release the Elements.
  6. Utilities>Transform>Symmetrical is used to copy the mesh about symmetrical axis.
  7. Delete the unwanted hot spots and cons while retaining the clear mesh.
  8. Under Quality Criteria>Presentation Prameters tab select Draw shell as solid check box to view thickness.
  9. Release the Elements.

Note:It took 4hrs to complete the component.
