Analysis of buckling phenomena in Cyclonic separator stand.

INTRODUTION:

In science, buckling is an instability that leads to structural failure. The failure modes can in simple cases be found by simple mathematical solutions. For complex structures the failure modes are found by numerical tools.

When a structure is subjected to compressive stress, buckling may occur. Buckling is characterized by a sudden sideways deflection of a structural member. This may occur even though the stresses that develop in the structure are well below those needed to cause failure of the material of which the structure is composed.

OBJECTIVE:

*To perform a buckling analysis on a cyclonic separator stand buckling factor of safety.

* To create a metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand and run the analysis to find out the change in buckling factor of safety.

*To run a design study and find the optimum position for the stiffener. Compare the results for all the cases.

Assumptions:

Only cyclonic separator stand is taken under analysis.

CONCLUSION:

1. Adding a stiffener to the cyclonic separtor stand will increase the Bucklig factor of satefy.

2. According to the design study for the postion of stiffener, a offset value of 1000mm from the top of the cyclonic stand gives the highest buckling factor of safety compared to all the remaining scenarios
