What Is Computer Aided Engineering: Explained

What Is Computer-Aided Engineering?

Computer-Aided Engineering, or CAE, outlines the usage of a computer and its software in order to analyse, create, and design different products and techniques. CAE assimilates computer-aided design(CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing(CAM) to support engineering analysis processes. Moreover, we can say that CAE techniques describe the software used to analyse and simulate unique products and designs. 

 

A simple CAE process comprises three significant steps: Preprocessing, Solving and Postprocessing steps. These three steps can be defined as follows:

  • Preprocessing Steps: In this step, the engineers check out the representation and physical properties of any design or product.
  • Solving: In this second step, the product or design we can claim as a model is solved using different mathematical formulas of the underlying physics with the help of computer software. 
  • Postprocessing Step: In this final step, after the analysis and indulging in the software, the final results are presented in front of the engineer for review. So, now the engineer provides the final judgment of the product or design obtained after these steps.

CAE has many applications as it is present in many sectors including automobiles, and aerospace. With more technological advancements, its applications are increasing globally. The global CAE market is growing at 8.8% of CAGR Here are some of the significant applications of CAE that you should know. 

 

What Is Computer Aided Engineering: Explained

 

  • Multibody Dynamics: Dynamic and Kinematic analysis of the mechanism 
  • FEA: Stress and Dynamics analysis on different products and designs using finite element analysis
  • MES: Mechanical event simulation
  • Control Systems analysis
  • Enhancing other processes and products
  • 1D CAE, or mechatronic system simulation
  • CFD: Computational fluid dynamics to determine thermal and fluid analysis

Computer-aided engineering has a lot of advantages, as it can directly or indirectly help in making a lot of tasks easy. One of the main advantages of CAE is that it saves a lot of time as it takes only a few hours to build and test digital prototypes. 

 

  • Saves Time: CAE software builds designs and products quickly, saving time and increasing productivity. 
  • Saves Money: Designs that are evaluated using computer software are much cheaper than creating physical prototypes. 
  • Few Errors: When you design anything using CAE software, the probability of correcting the errors becomes higher. 
  • Less Effort: Creating different designs becomes easy using CAE software; hence, less effort is put in because most of the work is done by computer.
  • Easily shared: It is effortless to store and share all the designs made using CAE software.  
  • More Accuracy: All the results we get using CAE software are more accurate than making those designs manually. 
  • Better Designs: CAE software is very advanced, and they help in making better designs as compared to the designs that are made manually.
