Skill-Lync is elated to partner with Financial Express in launching the Electric Mobility Summit 2022. On November 17, 2022, the event took place with honorable guests Shri Randheer Singh, Director – Electric Mobility & Senior Team Member for Advanced Chemistry Cells Program, NITI Aayog and Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, The Energy and Resources Institute. The main objective is to share the expert's views on EVs and how they can help India achieve net zero emissions.
India has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by up to 45% by 2030 at the COP26 conference. As automobiles generate 20% to 40% of emissions, adopting e-vehicle is the best solution. Top OEMs of India and leading experts attended the conclave and expressed their views and ideas to quicken the transformation process of India's automotive sector.
India needs to start installing lithium-ion cell production plants to become a global leader in manufacturing electric vehicles. Saket Sapra, Founder of Omega Seiki Mobility(OSM), mentioned that with the support of the Indian government, they would soon start manufacturing in-house cells for batteries.
Dr Vibha Dhawan added that expanding solar plants can fulfill the energy requirements for EV charging, and opportunities for Hydrogen fuels should be explored. She stressed that India's weather condition is an added advantage for solar power generation.
Battery swapping eliminates charging time and reduces the wastage of raw materials. Practical issues lie in manufacturing different types of batteries, as there is only standardization for safety guidelines. In this situation, battery swapping may not be feasible for India, but charging in the home and parking lot can be the best solution.
With an investment of Rs. 10,000 crores, phase 2 of FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) was launched in 2019 to create a demand for EV cars by providing subsidies to buyers. But due to the COVID lockdown, the automotive industry has witnessed a recession. Himanshu Jain (IAS), ACEO, Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion, mentioned that new solutions are to be found to address the hesitancy of the users.
A study estimated that the EV market in India would be $206 billion by 2030. To achieve this, India should invest in infrastructure development, battery charging technology and academia.
Many start-ups are quitting the competition due to a need for advanced equipment to meet safety standards. Only the best OEMs spending time and resources on R&D and testing could survive in this dynamic landscape. Ravi Panga, Director & CEO of Causis Group, shared that they have 10,000 orders for electric vehicles, for which they collaborate with the best minds in the EV industry.
Along with infrastructure support and investment, India needs skilled engineers specializing in using simulation software tools. Exposing engineers to modern industry trends during their final year and earlier part of their careers can help India design the most efficient EVs.
Pradeep Kumar K., Principal Architect - EV, Skill-Lync, explained a new perspective for manufacturing electric vehicles. To obtain maximum efficiency, industries should adopt a system design approach rather than selecting the best components.
Skill-Lync is extremely proud of Pradeep Kumar K., Principal Architect - EV, Skill-Lync, for sharing his piece of knowledge with eminent leaders of India. Watch this video to hear his words on the largest EV Summit of 2022.
Skill-Lync is bridging the gap between academia and industry by helping engineers to get industry exposure. Students of Skill-Lync work on real-time projects and gain hands-on experience in advanced simulation software used by leading manufacturers of electric vehicles. Skill-Lync has partnered with the Tamil Nadu government in its new Industry 4.0 initiative to train and upskill 17,000 students in 350+ colleges. New opportunities are available for industries and engineers to make the best of the available resources and help India to emerge as an EV hub.
