Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
OBJECTIVE:
To perform the Tension and torsion test with given conditions.
Find 1. Total deformation
2. Equivalent stress and
3. Temperature of the specimen for both the tests.
Tension test:
A tensile test applies a tensile force to a material and measures the specimen response to the stress.
| S. No | Result | |
| 1 | Total deformation | 18.007 mm |
| 2 | Equivalent stress | 622.74 MPA |
| 3 | Temperature of the specimen | 276.81 degrees |
Setup for a tension test:

Total Deformation:

Equivalent stress:

Temperature of the specimen:

Torsion test:
The purpose of the torsion test is to determine the behaviour of material when twisted or under torsional force.
| S. No | Result | |
| 1 | Total deformation | 13.87 mm |
| 2 | Equivalent stress | 641.38 MPA |
| 3 | Temperature of the specimen | 464.91 degrees |
Set up for Torsion test:

Total deformation:

Equvalent stress:

Temperature of the specimen:

Conclusion:
| S. No. | Deformation (mm) | Stress (MPa) | Temperature of the specimen (degrees) | |
| 1 | Tensile test | 18.007 | 622.74 | 276.81 |
| 2 | Torsion test | 13.87 | 641.38 | 464.91 |
Temperature in torsion test is higher than the temperature in tensile test because friction created during torsion is more than the tensile test.
Stress during tensile and torsion test is almost same.
