Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Aim:- To perform the tension and torsion test
Objective:-
- For tension test displace one end of the specimen to 18mm .
- for torsion test turn one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree
Tension Test:-
Geometry:-
Material selection:-
Steel 1006
Co-ordinate System:-
Meshing:-
Face Sizing:-
Face sizing is used with type sphere of influence and sphere radius 22mm.
Patch Confirming Method:-
Method of meshing is tetrahedrons.
Mesh:-
Anslysis Settings:-
Fixed Support:-
One end of specimen is fixed.
Displacement:-
Displacement of 18 mm is applied in X-axis.
Post-processing:-
Total Deformation:-
Equivalent Stress:-
Temprature:-
Torsion test:-
Geometry:-
Material selection:-
Steel 1006
Co-ordinate System:-
For torsion testing the centre of geometry cylindrical type of co-ordinate system is used.
Meshing:-
Face Sizing:-
Two types of face sizing is used in this meshing
First is sphere of influence
And second id face selection
Patch Confirming Method:-
The method used is tetrahedrons.
Mesh:-
Anslysis Settings:-
The end time for this system is 1e-3
Fixed Support:-
One end of specimen is fixed
Displacement:-
Angular displacement of 1200 degree is applied.
Post-processing:-
Total Displacement:-
Equivalent Stress:-
Temprature:-
Results:-
Results of tension test
| MAX | MIN | |
| Total Deformation | 18.003 mm | 0 mm |
| Equivalent Stress | 645.36 MPa | 0.35246 MPa |
| Temprature | 355.95 °C | 22. °C |
Results of torsion test:-
| MAX | MIN | |
| Total Deformation | 18.896 mm | 0 mm |
| Equivalent Stress | 654.41 MPa | 0. MPa |
| Temprature | 395.04 °C | 22. °C |
Conclusion:-
- Total deformation is slightly more in torsion test than tension test
- In both the tests the stress value is almost the same , But when we compare tension test generates lesser stress than torsion test.
- Tempreture is more in torsion test by 40 degrees .
