Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Tension and Torsion test using Ansys Explicit
Objective:
Tension and Torsion are performed to the given test specimen and displacement applied is varied to do a case study.
Briefing:
The model consists of dog bone type of test specimen one end is fixed and another end is given displacement.

For the Tension test, case 1 is given a displacement of 16mm and for case 2 displacement of 18mm
For the Torsion test, case 1 is given a displacement of 1080 degree and for case 2 displacement of 1200 degree
Procedure and Setup
Materials: Steel 1006 is used for the test specimen.

Meshing:
Patch conforming(Tetrahedroons) and Sphere of Influence (element size 3mm) is used to mesh the model.

Boundary conditions:
One end of the specimens is fixed and another end is given a displacement of 16 mm / 1080 degrees for torsion test

Analysis setting:
The model is run for 0.001 sec with a maximum energy error set to 0.1.

Results and Case Study:
Tension Test
| Cases / Parameters | total deformation | equivalent stress | temperature |
| Displacement 16 mm | 16.004 mm | 636.37 MPa | 245.71 °C |
| Displacement 18 mm | 18.004 mm | 637.54 MPa | 267.35 °C |

Torsion Test
| Cases / Parameters | total deformation | equivalent stress | temperature |
| Rotation 1080 degree | 13.789 mm | 658.6 MPa | 420.92 °C |
| Rotation 1200 degree | 19.408 mm | 660.22 MPa | 468.05 °C |

For both tests, the specimen has failed as the ultimate strength has been reached (yield = 350 Mpa)
