Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Objective-
For the tension test, displace one end of the specimen to 18mm while keeping the other fixed. You will need to find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach appropriate images to show your results.
For the torsion test, you will need to displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree. Find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach images to show your results.
Case 1- Tension test
keeping one end of the bar fixed and giving tension to the other end by 18mm we can observe the values for tension as at this point the bar has already reached fracture point and hence it breaks.
Stress-
Total deformation-
Temperature-
Case 2- Torsion test
In this case we fix one end and apply torsion on the other end
Stress-
Total deformation-
Temperature-
Conclusion- we observe in both the cases when we apply tension (displacement of 18 mm) and torsion(rotation of 1200 degree) the specimen reaches its fracture point and breaks into two but the specimen does not break on 16mm displacement and 1150 degreees rotation.
