Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge
Machining with Planar
Objective: To perform an explicit dynamics simulation to find out Equivalent stress, Total Deformation, and also to include a user defined result to calculate the temperature of the body for two different casing with cutting speeds of 20000mm/s & 15000mm/s.
Geometry:
The above geometry consists of a workpiece & a cutting tool.
Cutting tool is defined as rigid body as we are concentrating on the workpiece.
Materials:
Structural steel is defined as the material for cutting tool & its properties are shown above.
Steel 1006 is defined as the material for workpiece & its properties are shown above.
Mesh:
Mesh metrics is shown above.
Edge sizing is defined for workpiece & patch conforming method is defined for cutting tool.
No of elements: 9439
No of nodes: 7694
Analysis Settings:
The above analysis settings are used for the analysis. End time is set to 7e-4secs.
Case 1: Cutting Speed of 20000mm/s
Boundary Conditions:
Cutting Velocity of 20000mm/s as shown above.
Fixed Support at the bottom of the workpiece as shown above.
Energy Conservation & Time Increment:
Results:
Total Deformation:
The mechanism has a total deformation as shown above.
Equivalent Stress:
The mechanism has max equivalent stress of 636.92 Mpa as shown above.
User Defined Result- Temperature of the body:
The mechanism reaches a max temperature of 331.36 deg as shown above.
Case 2: Cutting Speed of 15000mm/s
Boundary Conditions:
Cutting Velocity of 15000mm/s as shown above.
Fixed Support at the bottom of the workpiece as shown above.
Energy Conservation & Time Increment:
Results:
Total Deformation:
The mechanism has a total deformation as shown above.
Equivalent Stress:
The mechanism has max equivalent stress of 627.86 Mpa as shown above.
User Defined Result- Temperature of the body:
The mechanism reaches a max temperature of 325.15 deg as shown above.
Comparison:
|
|
Total Deformation |
Equivalent Stress |
Body Temperature |
|
Case 1 |
26.92 |
636.92 |
331.63 |
|
Case 2 |
26.32 |
627.86 |
325.15 |
From the above comparison, the total deformation, equivalent stress & body temperature for Case 1 is higher than case 2 due to the cutting speed.
