Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge
OBJECTIVE:-
- To perform an Explicit dynamics simulation of the given body.
Geometry:
Materials:
Cutting tool is kept as Rigid with Structural Steel as material and the Workpiece is assigned with Steel 1006 material.
Connections:
In Explicit Analysis, the model mainly depends mainly on Body Interactions.
Mesh:
For cutting tool, Tetrahedrons method is assigned.
For the case of Workpiece, 4 edges were selected for division meshing, where 10 divisions were assigned.
Analysis Settings:
End time = 7.5e-4 s
Fixed support:
Velocity:
Velocity of 20000 mm/s and 15000 mm/s is worked on for the two cases.
Solutions:
Case 1 : Velocity 20000 mm/s
Total deformation:
Min. value = 0 mm , Max. value = 34.316 mm
Equivalent stress:
Min. value = 0 MPa , Max. value = 673.99 MPa
User defined Temperature :
Min. value = 19.85 degree Celcius , Max. value = 367.77 degree Celcius
Case 2 : Velocity 15000 mm/s
Total deformation:
Min. value = 0 mm , Max. value = 23.61 mm
Equivalent stress:
Min. value = 0 MPa , Max. value = 674.49 MPa
User defined Temperature :
Min. value = 19.85 degree Celcius , Max. value = 364.74 degree Celcius
CONCLUSIONS:-
Comparing results for both cases:
|
Velocity mm/s |
Total deformation, in mm |
Equivalent stress, in MPa |
Temperature, in degree Celcius |

From above table, we can observe that:
- Total deformation is maximum in case 1 with velocity of 20000 mm/s.
- Equivalent stress is maximum in Case 2.
- Temperature is maximum in Case 1 20000 mm/s as it is travelling with higher velocity.
