Week 9 - Creating connection for Rear door
Week 9 connections
To create and apply different PID’s and deploy FE connections to the given rear door FE model.
Objective:
- 1D element and type of connection.
- Different type of methods to make connection.
- Assigning mass to the body.
- Assigning seam and spot weld connection.
PROCEDURE:
1.Import the given FE rear door model into the ANSA work area and analyze the different parts present in the model, and create PID’s to apply for each part
Given FE model.
Since the given FE is modelled using shell elements, we create PID for shell elements PSHELL in ANSA.
To create PID:
LISTS > PROPERTIES > RIGHT CLICK / NEW > NEW > PSHELL > PSHELL
Apply the PID to the desired elements in the model.
RBE2 connection:
As name suggests, RBE2 is a type of element which makes connection rigid and prevents movements along translation and rotational in x, y and z axis. We have two type of RBE2 connections to use i.e. many node RBE2 and two node RBE2.
- many nodes RBE2
- Two nodes RBE2
Many nodes RBE2
MODULES > DECKS > ELEMENTS > RBE2 > MANY NODES
Select the nodes that are to be connected.
RBE2 Cluster
Two parts connections are seen with in the subsystem RBE2 cluster system is deployed
Adding mass to the handle
Seam welding:
Seam weld connection is also used to connect two mating parts. Generally, we use two types of seam weld connection i.e. overlap shell and Y-joint shell. Overlap shell connection is used when we have to connect two parts which are parallel to each other. And Y-joint shell is used when we have to connect two parts which are perpendicular to each other.
Here, in this case we will use overlap shell weld connection. Steps to create connection are as follow:
Mesh module > Perimeter> Feat2curv. This command will help to create curve from the CONs.
Now we have to convert the curve into seam line. Then using connection manager, we have to select overlap shell in FE representation type. Now overlap shell weld connection is established between parallel mating parts by selecting appropriate sheets in P1 and P2 as shown in picture below.
The next step is to deploy the overlap-shell connection on the created seam line as shown in the below figure.
CBUSH CONNECTION:
RBE3-CBUSH-RBE3 connection helps to establish connection in between mirror and the door panel. These connections are also known as weather strips connection. These weather strips play an important role to maintain climatic condition in between the outside and inside air.
To establish this connection, we have to follow following steps
To deploy a CBUSH connection go to ASSEMBLY > CONNECTION MANAGER >SELECT THE CURVE > SELECT FE TYPE = RBE3-CBUSH-RBE3, and select the P1 and P2 as door and window respectively
Create a separate PID for PBUSH ID and apply it to the connection.
PBUSH PID will allow applying 6 different stiffness values(K1-K6) to the property, as shown in above image.
Assigning CBUSH connection to the global coordinate system
The orientation of the CBUSH needs to be changed to a global orientation.
To align the coordinate to the global orientation set CID value to zero, as shown in the below image
Learning outcome:
After completing the assignment, I am able to
- Assign property identity for every subpart.
- Create RBE2 Element in order to represent bolt connection.
- Create RBE3 Hexa RBE3 element in order to represent spot weld connection.
- Create RBE3 CBUSH RBE3 element in order to represent weather strips.
- Create seam weld connection.
- Create mass concentration element in order to represent door handle.
Conclusion:
Different connections have been generated on the given rear door part to represent the real door connection to the vehicle body, the orientation of CBUSH elements are aligned to the global coordinate system.
