Week 8 Worm Gear Challenge
A) TITLE:- Worm and gear simulation using ansys workbench 2019 V3.
B) OBJECTIVE :- To simulate the worm gear motion to study different parameters like equivalnet stress , equivalent strain etc.
C) MODELING :- The model consisiting of a worm and a half gear is imported into the transient structural analysis module.
D) ANALYSIS :-
1)The worm and gear both are assigned with structural steel material.
2)The frictionless contact has been set up between the worm and gear surfaces where the actual contact happens during the motion.
3) The worm and gear both are assigned with body-ground revoulte joints. when the worm is rotated this motion will get transferred to gear and it will also rotate.
4) The worm and gear are meshed with 2 mm mesh size.
5)The analysis is carried out into 20 steps with large defelction on the minimum time step was 0.2 sec and maximum time step was 0.5 sec.
6)The worm revolute joint has assined with 1600 degree of rotation with incerment of 80 degree each in 20 steps.
7) the simulation is then carried out and the results obtained are summarized below:-
E) RESULTS :-
The results obtained from simulation are summarized below:-
1) total deformation
2) equivalent stress
3) equivalent strain
All the results are tabulated below:-
F) DISCUSSIONS:-
i) The maximum deformation observed is 15.33 mm .
ii) The maximum equivalnet stress is found to be 1130.9 MPa. the maximum stress is observed at the teeth root of gear .
iii) The maximum equivalent strain is found to be 0.0069 . The maximum strain is observed at the teeth root of the gear.
NOTE :- The simulation file has been attached here.
