Week - 8 - Morphing

Week – 8 Morphing

Aim:

To perform different morphing techniques for the given sheet metal component and mention its industrial applications.

Procedure:

The model is imported to ANSA

Geometrical cleanup:

The given model is checked for geometrical errors and it is fixed by using necessary options under topo module.

Basic Morphing Method:

  • The geometry to be morphed is selected by the option boxes>new under morph module
  • The morph box can be split into various parts by the split option under boxes, to make small changes in the geometry
  • Morph boxes is deleted using option boxes>Delete in order to avoid the traces of morphing done on the component.

Morphing:

  • Morphing is a technique in a Pre-processor for Structural Analysis ANSA, used for reshaping of the CAD model or the FE This technique is used for the purpose of improvisation or bring about the change in the model used for real time.

Type of Morphing

  1. Domain or Box Morphing:

Domain or Box Morphing is preformed via boxes that are created around a particular part or assembly that the user intends to morph. The movement of the Morphing boxes control points defines the morphing operations on the entities inside the Morph box. This type of Morphing can be applied to both FE and Geometry based models.

  1. Direct Morphing:

ANSA direct morphing features gives the user the ability to efficiently modify a part locally without h This method is extremely useful in creating local modifications on single parts. Creation of depression features to new target geometry, moving selected features along the contour of a surface and also elements during the morphing process are some of the direct morphing abilities.

  1. Parametric Morphing:

The desired morphing actions can be saved as parameters which can be accessed in batch mode. Users can enforce desired shape changes by changing numerical input value for the appropriate parameter.

  1. Geometry Morphing:

ANSA brings to the CAE world its one of a kind tool for CAD geometry morphing. This pioneering concept allows the user to utilize the inventory of all the familiar FE morphing functions to perform equivalent operations in a CAD environment on geometric entities.

Applications:

  • The purpose of the morphing wing is to increase aircraft performance in different flight phases. Performance parameters that can be developed with the morphing wing concept; are important parameters such as maximum speed, fuel consumption, maneuverability, carrying capacity, range, durability, stability.
  • One industry that benefits the most from morphing is aviation The rocket used for defense as well as for the aircraft modification, this technique is found to be useful one. By application, the part that goes through major changes are its fuselage and wings. Through this different aircraft are made depending on its application and variant.

  • Common application of morphing involves transforming the type of a Maruti Suzuki was a sedan, but its tail was morphed and mode a hatchback for its use in high traffic condition. The some stand for Honda Amaze, where the actual and a bigger Honda City is transformed to its smaller version. The same is done for increasing the size of the toil or making the sedan to SUVs or SUVs to TUVs

Industrial application of morphing:

  • Morphing techniques are used in industry to facelift the existing design.
  • This technique considerably reduces the time and cost required for designing.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn the techniques of morphing and usage of various tools under morphing module of ANSA
  • Studied the applications of morphing in industry.

Conclusion:

In this challenge I have successfully imported the model and geometry clean up with no errors. I have successfully created the box morph and divided it using split. I have moved them in different directions. Also read about some real-life morphed designs related to industry.
