Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

DRAFT ANALYSIS:
Draft is a taper applied to the faces of the part that prevent them from being parallel to the motion of the mold opening. This keeps the part from being damaged due to the scraping as the part is ejected out of the mold.
The draft angle of plastic part prevents the plastic parts from sticking to the mold, which causes the plastic part to deform. The draft angle is generally 3°
A draft angle is calculated as a degree measurement (or, less often, an inch or millimeter measurement) from the vertical axis of a mold, and it helps account for thermoplastic shrinkage, a practical reality of the injection molding process for most materials.
Tooling axis:
It is drawn by taking a bisection of two inclined lines.
Core
The core is the raised part of the mold and the cavity is the recessed part of the mold. The cavity and core in a typical plastic injection molding machine of an injection mold are the molding parts of the mold and play a key role in the shape of the molded part.
Cavity:
The sequence of events during the injection mould of a plastic part is called the injection moulding cycle. The cycle begins when the mould closes, followed by the injection of the polymer into the mould cavity.
