Challenge

Week 8

Objective:

In this challenge, practice all the Morphing techniques that were shown in the video for the given component.

Write a report on Morphing and its use cases in various industries.

Procedure:

The given component is to be morphed as explained in the video:

  • Firstly, TOPO command is to be used to convert all single CONS to double/triple CONS.
  • Run the check manager to ensure all single CONS are fixed.
  • Triple CONS can be allowed wherever inevitable.
  • Then under Morph tab, select Boxes > New > Ortho > Geometry.
  • Select the required Macros and click OK. A box is now created around the selected Macro.
  • To Morph, select Box Morphing > Move.
  • Then select the nodes to be moved and check the axes of movement. (X/Y/Z)
  • After moving arbitrarily (as in our case) or as per any co-ordinate data provided, click OK to finalize.
  • Finally, delete the created Morph Boxes.
  • The Morphing is complete.

Learning Outcome:

This challenge has helped me understand about the basics of morphing. It has taught me how industries use the morphing technique to bring about subtle changes in the FE. The CAD does not need to be sent back to the CAD team to make changes for testing. It is a time-saving tool to have in ANSA because the CAD as well as the FE can be morphed within the tool and analysis can be performed to check if the morph is acceptable. Morphing has been a part of various industries including automobile, Aerospace, wind energy etc.

Conclusion:

The given component was morphed as per the instructions provided in the video.
